Triolo Powers to TREMEC Stick Shift Shootout Title

Scott Triolo of Brick, N.J. scored a big win in the TREMEC Stick Shift Shootout held during last weekend’s Mickey Thompson NMRA Ford Homecoming presented by Anderson Composites at Summit Raceway Park.

Triolo drove his ’85 Mustang to the victory with a 10.140 to defeat Dennis Osworth of LaSalle, Mich., who trailed with an 11.022 in his ’08 Mustang.

The TREMEC Stick Shift Shootout is a special event designed to showcase manually-shifted vehicles in the Circle D Specialties True Street class. In order to participate in the event, competitors must first complete a 30-mile street cruise and then make three back-to-back-to-back runs on the dragstrip without breakage or extensive maintenance. Finally, the field is comprised of the eight quickest stick shift vehicles.

Qualifying for the eight car field was tough as Kyle Miller of Riverview, Fla., took the top spot with a 9.10 average in his ’04 Mach 1 Mustang. The top three cars maintained a nine-second average while the eight car bump was held by Eric McNutt at a respectable 11.55.

In eliminations, where drivers are handicapped by their average elapsed time with no breakout enforced, Triolo advanced over McNutt with a 10.58 on his 10.94 average. Triolo then used a 10.10 to beat Jeff Smith, who has a record of success in the TREMEC Stick Shift Shootout that is nearly unmatched.

In the final, Triolo powered to a 10.14 to hold off Dennis Osworth, who ran an 11.02 against his 11.73 average. Osworth reached the final with wins against low qualifier Miller and Curtis Pontones.

For the win, Triolo received $1,500 in prize money pluse a McLeod clutch and flywheel. He is also eligible for a $1,000 TREMEC bounty and an additional $1,000 bounty from McLeod. Runner-up Osworth received $500 plus a McLeod product certificate.

The next TREMEC Stick Shift Shootout will be held at the NMRA World Finals and Holley Ford Festival at Beech Bend Raceway Park in Bowling Green, Ky., Sept. 26-29.
